    (born 1958) holds graduate degrees in law from the University of Leuven (Licentiate, 1980) and Harvard Law School (LL.M., 1981). He also obtained a Ph.D. in law from the University of Leuven (1986) where he is a professor of company and financial law, and chairman of the Jan Ronse Institute for company law.

    He founded Eubelius in 1994, and is heading its corporate department. With 100 lawyers Eubelius is the most important independent Belgian law firm. Koen Geens was elected as Belgian lawyer of the year by Chambers Global in 2002. Eubelius is a recipient of numerous awards, including the 2006 Belgian legal Awards as law firm of the year and best firm to work for (the latter award was repeated in 2007).

    Koen was involved in most of the leading Belgian corporate and securities important transactions of the last years. These include the initial public offerings of Belgacom (2004) and Elia (2005), the bank merger of Almanij and KBC (2004-2005), the successful take-over bids by Belgacom for Telindus (2005), by Suez for Electrabel (2005, followed by 2007 squeeze-out), and by Mittal Steel for Arcelor (2006). He also advised UCB in its public bid for Schwarz, a German pharmaceutical company (2006).

    Koen Geens served as president of the Belgian Federation of Liberal Professions. He is an honorary president of the Superior Council for the Audit Profession. Koen Geens also is the author of numerous authoritative scientific publications, in particular in the areas of company and financial law and regulated professions. He was appointed by the Belgian government as the scientific coordinator for the codification of the Belgian laws on companies and financial accounts, which culminated in the new Belgian company code.
